Museveni heads to Greater Mukono to assess PDM impact on poverty alleviation

President Museveni today heads to Greater Mukono to assess Parish Development Model progress in the ongoing anti-poverty campaign.

Mukono, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to visit Greater Mukono today as part of his ongoing national tour to monitor the implementation and impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM), a flagship program aimed at eradicating household poverty across Uganda.

In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the President wrote: “Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazukulu, the battle against poverty takes me to Greater Mukono today. I will visit the area to assess how PDM is working for our people.”

The tour is expected to cover sub-regions within the Greater Mukono cluster, including Buikwe, Kayunga, Buvuma, and Mukono districts, where the President will meet beneficiaries, local leaders, and SACCO managers to evaluate progress and identify implementation gaps.

The President will also launch the Mukono Industrial Zonal hub as part of his continued empowerment of youths to get skilled in vocational training for self-employment and livelihood improvement. He [Museveni] will also meet the subregional leaders to assess and resolve any issues surrounding the PDM wealth creation program.

Museveni’s PDM tours have so far taken him across several zones, including Greater Mpigi, Ankole, Teso, and Bukedi, with a consistent message urging Ugandans to embrace enterprise selection and commercial farming as a pathway out of subsistence.

The PDM programme, launched in 2022, aims to lift 3.5 million households into the money economy by channelling Shs100 million annually to every parish in the country through SACCOs, targeting smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs.
