Kampala, Uganda: Brenda Kiconco, a prominent Ugandan youth leader in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has been officially nominated to contest in the NRM party primaries for the position of National Chairperson of the Youth League at the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for 2025–2030
Kiconco, who is currently the Secretary of Female Affairs at the National Youth Council, arrived at the NRM headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala for her nomination on Thursday, July 03, 2025, accompanied by a sea of enthusiastic supporters.
Her nomination marks a significant milestone in the ongoing reorganization of the party’s youth structures ahead of the 2026 general elections.
A vocal advocate for youth inclusion in governance, Kiconco is anchoring her campaign on the message that young people must step up to lead today, not wait for tomorrow.
“We are the leaders of now, not tomorrow,” she declared shortly after her nomination on Thursday. “It is time we take responsibility, organize ourselves, and steer the future of this country with clarity, purpose, and courage.”

The race for the Youth League National Chairperson post is expected to be competitive, drawing aspirants from across Uganda. However, party insiders suggest that Kiconco’s early start, bold messaging, and strong mobilization base give her a compelling edge.
Running under the banner “Youth Voice”, her campaign calls on young people, from LC1 leaders to digital mobilizers, to rise and actively shape the next generation of the NRM. Her vision aligns with the party’s four core principles: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Democracy, and Socio-Economic Transformation.
Party sources have hinted that Kiconco’s nomination is already stirring significant interest within youth circles and senior party ranks, with many viewing her as a dynamic figure capable of bridging the gap between the NRM’s older leadership and its youthful majority base.

Once elected (as widely expected), Kiconco is poised to become one of the youngest voices at the party’s highest decision-making table, signaling a new era of youth-led leadership within Uganda’s ruling party.
Her campaign, covering the 2025–2030 strategic cycle, pledges to build cohesive youth structures from LC1 to national platforms while prioritizing digital engagement, economic empowerment, and civic education for young Ugandans.
Observers note that her advantage lies not only in her background but also in the political moment she occupies. Kiconco offers both continuity and change, continuity in upholding the President’s four ideological tenets and change in being the first female face leading a youth generation born entirely in the NRM era.
“She’s not a protest candidate. She’s a strategic one,” remarked an NRM youth affairs desk officer. “She will win because the party knows what’s at stake.”
