Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has attributed his decision to seek another term in 2026 to overwhelming calls from party supporters, particularly the youth mobilised under the Tova Ku Main slogan championed by the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC) led by Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo.
Speaking moments after his full nomination on Saturday, July 5, at the NRM Electoral Commission Headquarters in Kampala, President Museveni said he had planned to leave the political stage but reconsidered following sustained appeals across the country.
“People kept telling me, ‘Tova Ku Main’. That’s why I decided to come back,” Museveni declared to loud cheers from party loyalists.
The President said the Tova Ku Main message resonated with him deeply because it reflected the people’s trust in his leadership and the stability of the NRM.
At the same event, Mr. Museveni also unveiled six focus areas that will anchor his next manifesto, promising to consolidate peace and security for Uganda, deepen the wealth creation gospel, enhance infrastructure development, create jobs through industrialization, strengthen social services, and ensure ideological clarity within the party.
The President commended Hajjat Namyalo and her grassroots mobilisers for rallying millions behind the NRM cause. “These young people have shown that when you mobilise with facts, unity and purpose, nobody can defeat us,” he added.

Hajjat Namyalo, the architect of the Tova Ku Main campaign, welcomed the President’s acknowledgement as vindication of her tireless efforts to galvanise support at the grassroots. “To the opportunists who doubted us and tried to undermine this message, today is proof that the people know the truth,” she said.
Throughout the day, security remained tight during the event, with police reporting the arrest of 16 suspects accused of planning to disrupt proceedings. This followed last week’s spate of robberies in the city linked to groups masquerading as NRM supporters.
Museveni’s nomination clears the path for a high-stakes 2026 election season in which he will seek to extend his four-decade leadership, buoyed by a campaign machinery already in motion under the theme of continuity and economic transformation.
