Snoop surprises Gulu ghetto youths with food, clothes at Oktoberfest

Ghetto youths in Gulu City celebrate Uganda’s Independence Day at the Oktoberfest after receiving food and clothes from ghetto mobilizer Bosco “Snoop” Lawino.

Gulu City, Uganda: Over 400 ghetto youths in Gulu City, popularly known as the Aguu, who are providing security at the ongoing Oktoberfest at Kaunda Grounds, were treated to a colorful Independence Day surprise with food, refreshments, and clothes courtesy of Bosco Lawino, alias Snoop, a leading mobilizer for ghetto youths in northern Uganda.

The youths, many of whom are street boys, have been deployed to maintain security throughout the nine-day Oktoberfest, which has drawn over 10,000 local and international revelers. Their engagement has been credited with significantly reducing crime during the event, with only a few minor incidents of lost phones—all promptly recovered.

Snoop revealed that he coordinated with the Gulu District Police Commander to have the youths handle security, noting that the initiative not only keeps them busy but also instills a sense of pride and responsibility.

“Keeping these youths engaged is important. It reduces crime and gives them a sense of responsibility. Providing food and clothes on Independence Day was my way of appreciating their efforts,” Snoop said.

One of the beneficiaries, Idi Amin, 23, expressed gratitude for the gesture. “I didn’t have anything to eat, and this came at the right time. It really means a lot to us,” he said.

Tekwo Reagan, known as MC Young Money, the president of the ghetto youths, praised Snoop’s leadership, noting that their work has ensured a safe environment at the festival. “We’re proud to be part of this initiative, and so far, there have been no major incidents. We are committed to keeping everyone safe,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hanifa Haruna, Chairperson of the Ghetto Mothers and a food vendor at the festival, volunteered to cook for the youths at no cost. “It’s my way of giving back to the community and supporting the youths who are keeping the festival secure,” she said.

Snoop also commended the government for engaging youths in community-driven initiatives and thanked NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong for pledging to collaborate with ghetto leaders in mobilization efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The Oktoberfest celebrations continue at Kaunda Grounds, attracting thousands of visitors to Gulu City’s cultural and entertainment hub.
