Buyende, Uganda: Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Anita Among, former Vice President Speciosa Kazibwe, have rallied voters in Buyende District to overwhelmingly back President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement in the January 15, 2026 General Election.

Addressing mobilisation rallies across Budiope West on Monday, the leaders joined by East African Legislative Assembly MP Veronica Kadogo urged Busoga to return to politics anchored in ideology, service delivery and unity, while rejecting divisive and identity-based politics.

Hon Among, who was campaigning for NRM flag bearers including Milly Babirye Babalanda (Budiope West MP), Sarah Namulondo, and Sharif Mangaraine, challenged voters to focus on development-oriented leadership.

“We should focus on ideology and service delivery, not identity, personal issues and hate speech. Let us stop living in the past, grow out of illusions and embrace leadership that delivers development,” Ms Among said.

She told supporters that while NRM is poised for victory nationally, Buyende was aiming higher—seeking to emerge as one of the top-performing districts in Museveni’s vote tally.

“We are not just mobilising to win. We want to win with distinction and excellence so that Buyende becomes a leading district in Busoga and nationally,” Hon Among said, adding that strong electoral performance strengthens bargaining power for development.

The Speaker, who is also 2nd National NRM Vice Chairperson, dismissed opposition promises as populist, accusing rival parties of spreading anti-development propaganda. She cited the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a key programme that the NRM government intends to expand.

“They say they will scrap PDM in their first 100 days. Do you really want that? We are increasing it and even creating a wealth fund for those who don’t qualify. Ignore empty promises and stick with Mzee,” she told the crowd.

She pledged to leverage her position to lobby for improved service delivery in Buyende, including construction of a district hospital, piped water systems, electricity expansion, improved road networks, and operationalisation of the Bukungu ferry.

Former Vice President Kazibwe called on Busoga leaders to unite and end internal divisions, which she said have slowed the region’s development. “Internal fights keep Busoga lagging behind and leave our people in poverty. I am going to engage my sisters so that we reconcile and focus on service delivery for our people,” she said.

EALA MP Veronica Kadogo echoed the unity message, urging leaders and communities to support one another rather than compete destructively. “When we support each other, we can serve our people in different capacities for the common good of Budiope,” Kadogo said.

The mobilisation drive also drew participation from Budiope East MP Moses Hashim Magogo, who welcomed the NRM leadership to the district following his confirmation as unopposed.
