Pakwach, Uganda: At least one person died on the spot, and 41 others were left injured on Sunday afternoon after a black Fuso truck overturned along the Pakwach–Panyimur road in the West Nile sub-region, police have confirmed.
According to police, the accident occurred at about 2:00pm in Kaligonzi village when a black Fuso truck, registration number UBR 819A, traveling from Lacor in Gulu District to Panyimur Market, veered off the road and overturned while negotiating a slight bend.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia said preliminary findings indicate the driver, who is yet to be identified, was over-speeding at the time of the crash.
“The vehicle lost control while negotiating a bend and overturned. Many passengers sustained injuries, while some, due to trauma, initially fled the scene,” SSP Angucia said.

Police identified the deceased as Sande K, a 50-year-old male Acholi businessman from Anaka in Nwoya District.
Eleven passengers sustained serious injuries and were first rushed to Panyimur Health Centre, where Sande was pronounced dead. The critically injured include:

Police officers from Pakwach responded to the scene, documented evidence, cleared the wreckage, and towed the truck to Panyimur Police Station for mechanical inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles. The body of the deceased was transferred to Pakwach Health Centre IV mortuary pending postmortem examination.
Preliminary investigations attribute the crash to reckless driving and over-speeding. The matter has been registered under Pakwach TAR 01/2026 as inquiries continue.
