Kampala, Uganda: Police have arrested 111 suspects in coordinated night operations across Kampala Metropolitan Area and Mukono District as security agencies intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug abuse, robbery, theft and related offences.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Kawala Rachael, the operations are part of ongoing disruptive actions aimed at flushing out habitual criminals operating from identified black spots within urban centres.
“On 01st February 2026 at about 2300hrs, a joint operation was carried out in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District. During the operation, a total of 11 suspects were arrested from a mapped-out black spot known for harbouring criminals who engage in smoking marijuana, waylaying, and robbing members of the public,” Kawala noted.
In a related operation on January 30, 2026, at about 6:00 pm, officers from Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), working with local leaders, carried out a city-wide crackdown codenamed “Fukuza Mafisadi.”
The operation covered Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, areas behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area and Mukwano, targeting youth who allegedly loiter at known black spots before engaging in crimes such as mobile phone and bag snatching, as well as theft of vehicle parts from motorists stuck in traffic jams.
“The operation targeted youth who lie in wait at identified black spots and later engage in criminal acts such as snatching mobile phones and bags, as well as stealing vehicle parts from wananchi held up in traffic jams,” Kawala said.
Police said 100 suspects were arrested during the Kampala operation and are expected to appear in court on February 2, 2026.
The Uganda Police Force says the operations will continue as part of sustained efforts to restore order, curb urban crime and protect residents within the metropolitan area.
