Kampala, Uganda: The world-renowned Ghetto Kids dance troupe lit up Speke Resort Munyonyo with a high-energy performance during a Rotary Membership Gala Dinner Charter held in honor of Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo.
The gala marked the climax of Arezzo’s two-day official visit to Uganda, during which he presided over the chartering of 16 new Rotary clubs, significantly expanding Rotary’s presence in the country.
Arezzo, an orthodontist from Ragusa, Italy, and Rotary International President for 2025-26, has been a Rotarian for more than 36 years. His visit focused on strengthening Rotary’s footprint in community service, health and education across Uganda.
Addressing guests at the gala, Arezzo emphasized unity and action under his presidential theme, “Unite for Good – One Act at a Time.” He highlighted Rotary’s global impact, including efforts toward polio eradication, and ongoing local initiatives in water sanitation and maternal health.
The night’s biggest moment came when the Ghetto Kids stormed the stage with a vibrant Afrobeat routine that blended infectious rhythms and acrobatic choreography, drawing cheers from Rotarians, dignitaries and invited guests.
Founded in 2014 by Daouda Kavuma to empower orphaned and street children from Kampala’s Katwe community, the troupe has gained international acclaim following their viral “Sitya Loss” performance and appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. Their performance at Munyonyo celebrated Ugandan culture and resilience, bringing the audience to its feet.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Italy’s Ambassador to Uganda, Mauro Massoni, attended the event, underscoring its diplomatic and international significance. Arezzo earlier held private discussions with both leaders on strengthening collaboration between Italy and Uganda.
The gala also served as a fundraising platform for The Rotary Foundation, supporting humanitarian projects across Uganda.
As he concluded his visit, Arezzo commended Ugandan Rotarians for their dedication to service, noting that collective action remains central to building sustainable communities.
