Six-year-old epileptic boy drowns in Pallisa pool

A six-year-old boy living with epilepsy has drowned in a hill pool in Komolo Village, Pallisa District, police say, after the child reportedly went to bathe alone.

Pallisa, Uganda: Police in Pallisa District are investigating circumstances under which a six-year-old boy living with epilepsy drowned while bathing in a hill pool in Komolo Village, Kameke Sub-county, in a tragic incident that has shocked residents of the area.

The deceased has been identified as Ekait Moses. Police say the incident occurred on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at about 1:00 PM.

According to preliminary reports, the child had reportedly gone alone to bathe at a hill pool in Komolo Village, where he later drowned.

A local resident, Aporu Faustino, a 50-year-old peasant from the same village, reported the incident to authorities after discovering that the boy had drowned.

Residents in the community told DailyExpress that the child’s medical condition required constant supervision. “The boy’s epilepsy was well known in the village, and he required close monitoring at all times. Unfortunately, he was left to go to the pool alone,” one resident said on condition of anonymity.

The incident was first reported at Kameke Police Post under SD Ref 08/14/03/2026 before being formally registered at Pallisa Police Station as CRB 105/2026.

According to Bukedi North Police Spokesperson, ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, officers from Pallisa Police Station visited the scene to document the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

“Officers from Pallisa Police Station, led by the Deputy CID Officer, visited the scene. The district Scene of Crime Officer examined and documented the area, and statements were recorded from witnesses,” Kyempasa confirmed.

The child’s body was later retrieved and taken to Pallisa General Hospital for a postmortem examination before being handed over to the family for burial arrangements.

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to closely supervise children, especially those living with medical conditions that may expose them to greater risk near water bodies.
