Kampala, Uganda: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will convene high-level planning meetings in Kampala on April 22–23 as preparations intensify for the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
In a statement released on April 20, Confederation of African Football described the Kampala meetings as a critical milestone in aligning host nations ahead of the continental showpiece.
“It marks an important step in the coordinated planning process and will focus on key functional areas critical to the successful delivery of the competition,” CAF said.
The two-day engagement will address essential components required to successfully host the tournament, including: infrastructure and stadium development, safety and security systems, procurement and financial management, media and broadcasting coordination, ticketing and commercial operations.
CAF emphasised that strong coordination across these areas is vital to ensuring operational readiness. “CAF remains committed to supporting the host nations in building strong coordination mechanisms and operational readiness across all core areas of tournament delivery,” the statement added.
The meetings will bring together senior representatives from the governments of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, the three co-hosting nations under the PAMOJA partnership, as well as presidents of their respective football associations.

CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu and technical experts from departments including competitions, finance, safety, and broadcasting are also expected to attend.
The Kampala session is expected to align priorities and strengthen collaboration between CAF and host nations as preparations gather momentum.
The planning meetings follow a February inspection tour across the three countries, where CAF noted that none of the proposed stadiums were fully ready, highlighting the urgency required to meet international standards ahead of the 2027 tournament.
This has placed increased pressure on host nations to accelerate infrastructure development, including key venues such as Mandela National Stadium and regional facilities earmarked for matches.
The historic 2027 AFCON tournament is scheduled to run next year from June 19 to July 18, 2027, as it will be the first time East Africa will jointly host the competition.
Officials say the upcoming Kampala meetings will serve as a “kick-off moment” for a more results-driven phase of preparations, with clear timelines and accountability expected to be set.
