Kamuli, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Kamuli District have launched investigations into a suspected mob justice incident that left two unidentified men dead after they were allegedly accused of stealing a goat.
The bodies were discovered on Monday, April 20, 2026, in a swamp along Nagwenyi–Bulopa Road in Bukaibare Zone, Nagwenyi Parish, Bulopa Sub-county. At the scene, police recovered a burnt motorcycle, registration number UFY 817V, and a tied male goat believed to be at the centre of the dispute.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victims were intercepted by a group of individuals riding motorcycles from Bagaza Zone, who accused them of stealing the goat.
The group allegedly assaulted and killed the two men before dumping their bodies in the swamp and setting their motorcycle ablaze.
Busoga North Police spokesperson Samson Lubega confirmed the incident and strongly condemned mob justice.
“The police strongly condemns acts of mob justice and urges members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” Lubega said. “Suspects should always be handed over to the nearest police station for proper investigation and legal action.”

The incident has triggered concern among local leaders, with Bulopa Sub-county Speaker Bazanya Joel urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities.
“We need to allow the authorities to handle this matter. Taking the law into our own hands will only lead to more violence,” Bazanya said.
Police say efforts are underway to identify the deceased and arrest those responsible for the killings. Members of the public with information have been urged to report to the nearest police station.
Mob justice remains a growing concern in Uganda, often driven by public frustration, delayed investigations, and mistrust in formal justice systems.
According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, cases of mob action and assault-related incidents continue to feature among violent crimes reported nationwide, with rural areas particularly affected.
Security agencies have repeatedly warned that mob justice not only leads to loss of innocent lives but also undermines the rule of law.
