Kampala, Uganda: The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement has rolled out a nationwide mobilisation and community outreach campaign ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 12, 2026.
Addressing a press briefing at ONC headquarters in Kyambogo, ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye said the programme, branded under the #PresidentOmupya campaign, will see supporters engage in structured community activities across the country as part of the build-up to the inauguration.
Namyalo said the activities will include sanitation campaigns, hospital visits, and coordinated public mobilisation drives aimed at rallying citizens to participate in the swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
She framed the initiative as both a celebration of electoral victory and a deliberate effort to connect political mobilisation with community service, following what she described as overwhelming public support for President Museveni in the recently concluded elections.
“This is about taking the message back to the people while also serving communities that stood with us,” Namyalo said.

The ONC mobilisation comes at a time of heightened political activity ahead of the inauguration, with various structures within the ruling party ramping up engagement efforts to consolidate support and visibility. Among these include the NRM Secretariat, Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Local Content Unit, and NRM Ghetto Structures, among others.
At the same briefing, Namyalo raised concern over ongoing eviction and demolition exercises affecting low-income residents in urban areas, warning that development initiatives must be implemented with sensitivity to vulnerable populations.
“Development is important, but it should not oppress ordinary people. Many of these citizens voted for President Museveni, and they should not be left suffering in tears,” she said.
She, however, backed enforcement operations targeting illegal structures erected in wetlands and drainage channels, noting that such developments contribute to flooding and environmental degradation.
“Where authorities are demolishing makeshift structures and buildings constructed in wetlands that cause floods, that is understandable,” Namyalo added.
The ONC campaign is expected to intensify in the days leading up to May 12, with organisers positioning it as a hybrid mobilisation model combining political messaging, civic engagement, and community-based interventions.
