Kamuli, Uganda: Becky’s Child Foundation has called upon mothers across Uganda to take a leading role in nurturing children, promoting responsible parenting, and restoring family values amid growing concerns over child neglect and moral decline in society.
In her Mother’s Day message, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Rebecca Alitwala Mubeezi, urged mothers not to abandon their parenting responsibilities or transfer personal frustrations onto innocent children.
“Mothers are the first teachers,” Mubeezi said. “Having withstood the nine months carrying the baby in the womb and the pain and risks of childbirth, mothers should be deeply concerned whenever children are not properly brought up, mistreated or abused.”
Mubeezi described mothers as the “hearts of every home and community,” praising their sacrifice, resilience and unconditional love in raising families despite economic and social pressures.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers out there. Today we celebrate your endless love, strength and sacrifice that lights up the lives of your children every single day,” she said. “You are the heroines and queens whom we see making beautiful impact every day.”
Warning Against Absentee Parenting
The foundation expressed concern over what it described as increasing cases of absentee parenting, where children are left to grow up without guidance as parents spend less quality time with them.
According to Mubeezi, many children are now being raised by technology and social media instead of family values and parental mentorship.
“Most mothers nowadays act as absentee parents and leave children to grow on their own,” she cautioned. “This is creating a technology-raised generation detached from love, morals and values.”
She urged mothers to instill discipline, responsibility and moral values in children instead of overprotecting them or raising them without accountability.
“Teach children to know that wrong is wrong even if everyone thinks it is right,” Mubeezi advised. “Their rights must come with responsibility.”
She further appealed to mothers to avoid using children as tools in family conflicts.
“Let us not transfer hatred and anger onto innocent children,” she said. “Stop using children as shields or tools to tie the man onto you. Let motherly love remain unconditional.”

Kadaga Honoured on Mother’s Day
This year, Becky’s Child Foundation dedicated its Mother’s Day celebrations to Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Kamuli Woman MP, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, describing her as a role model and champion of girl child empowerment.
The foundation credited Kadaga for advocating policies and programs protecting girls from child marriage, defilement and gender-based violence while promoting girls’ education and reproductive health rights.
“Mama Kadaga has laid a legacy that has set the agenda for protection of the girl child and ensuring girls enroll, stay and complete school,” the foundation stated.
The organization also wished Kadaga a successful swearing-in to the 12th Parliament scheduled for May 13, 2026.
