Hundreds of drones illuminate portrait of President Museveni at the Kampala skyline ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Kampala, Uganda: A spectacular drone show lit up the skies over Kampala on Monday night as the ruling National Resistance Movement staged a high-tech patriotic display ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony happening today (Tuesday), at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The synchronized aerial display, which delayed for about 20 minutes from the scheduled 8 pm show, transformed the Kampala skyline as hundreds of illuminated drones formed patriotic symbols, Uganda’s national colours, and political messages associated with the NRM and the country’s development journey under Museveni’s leadership.

The colourful show quickly attracted attention across the city and dominated social media platforms, where supporters and residents shared videos and photographs of the rare technological spectacle.

At Skyz Hotel Naguru, where the team behind the drone show were station, excitement erupted as fireworks signaled the beginning of the display before the drones took over the night sky with choreographed formations and animated imagery.

Staff and guests raised phones and cameras to capture the unfolding spectacle as the drones illuminated the skyline above Kampala.

The drone performance formed part of broader celebrations organised ahead of Museveni’s inauguration for a seventh term in office.

The show reflects a growing shift toward visually driven and technology-based political communication, with drone shows increasingly becoming popular globally during national celebrations, sporting ceremonies and political events.

Unlike traditional fireworks, drone displays rely on computer-programmed aerial choreography using illuminated drones to create moving images, symbols and messages in the sky.

For the NRM, the display appeared aimed at projecting themes of modernization, patriotism, technological advancement and national unity ahead of the inauguration ceremony.

The aerial showcase also reinforced themes consistently promoted by the ruling party, including peace, infrastructure development, unity and national pride.

The event coincided with heightened activity in Kampala as diplomats, regional leaders and thousands of supporters continued arriving in the city for Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony.

Security deployment remained high across major roads and strategic installations throughout the evening as preparations for the national function entered final stages.
