Kampala, Uganda: Ugandan footballers abroad continued to enjoy an impressive 2025/26 season, with several national team stars and rising talents delivering memorable performances and helping their clubs secure major honours across Europe and Africa.
Among the standout performers is Phiona Nabulime, who played a key role as FC Masar completed a domestic double by winning both the Egyptian Women’s Premier League and Egypt Women’s Cup.
The achievement marked Nabulime’s second consecutive league title since joining the Egyptian side in 2024 from Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.
The Uganda Women’s National Team midfielder also gained valuable continental experience after helping FC Masar reach the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League earlier this season.
Bogere Makes Danish History
In Denmark, teenage striker James Bogere became one of Uganda’s biggest success stories abroad after helping AGF Aarhus win the Danish Superliga title for the first time since 1986.
AGF secured the championship following a decisive 2-0 victory over Brøndby IF, while rivals FC Midtjylland failed to win their final match.
The triumph guarantees AGF a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League qualification rounds.
Bogere has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining AGF in February 2026 together with fellow Ugandan Hamza Sengooba from El Cambio Academy.
Initially assigned to the club’s U-19 side, the 18-year-old striker quickly forced his way into the senior team after a series of impressive performances.
Earlier this month, Bogere scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Sønderjyske, further cementing his reputation as one of Uganda’s brightest young talents.
Before moving to Europe, Bogere had already represented Uganda at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and later featured for the Uganda national football team during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mato Eyes Historic Scottish Title
Elsewhere in Scotland, Rogers Mato and Heart of Midlothian F.C. secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
The development was confirmed after Celtic F.C. defeated Falkirk F.C., leaving Hearts top of the Scottish Premiership standings on 80 points.

The club remains in contention for a historic league title that would end a 66-year wait dating back to the 1959/60 season.
Mato joined Hearts on loan from FK Vardar in January and has since agreed a permanent three-year contract with the Scottish side.
Allan Okello Continues Yanga Heroics
In Tanzania, Allan Okello continues to shine for Young Africans S.C. in the NBC Premier League title race.
The Uganda Cranes midfielder scored twice during Young Africans’ 2-2 draw against Dodoma Jiji, continuing a rich run of form since arriving from Vipers SC in January 2026.
Okello recently won the league’s April Player of the Month award after recording one goal and six assists in just three matches.

Since joining Yanga, the attacking midfielder has now contributed five goals and seven assists, playing a central role in the club’s push for another league title and preparations for next season’s CAF Champions League campaign.
