Kiryandongo, Uganda: Nelson Osaga has officially been sworn in as the new Kiryandongo District LC5 Chairperson, pledging to strengthen service delivery, promote unity among leaders and accelerate socio-economic transformation across the district.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Kiryandongo District headquarters, attracted political leaders, civil servants, religious leaders, supporters and residents from different sub-counties who gathered to witness the start of a new district administration.
The oath of office was administered by Magistrate Samson Abiti Loum, who urged the newly elected leaders to uphold integrity, accountability and commitment to public service in accordance with the Constitution and the Local Government Act.
Osaga Promises Improved Services
In his inaugural speech, Osaga thanked the people of Kiryandongo for entrusting him with leadership, describing his election as a collective victory for development and transformation.
He pledged to prioritise improvements in healthcare, education, road infrastructure, agriculture and youth empowerment during his term in office.
“Effective leadership requires cooperation among political leaders, technical staff and the local population,” Osaga said.
The new district chairperson called for reconciliation and unity following the election period, urging residents to put aside political differences and work together for the development of Kiryandongo.
Focus on Accountability, Agriculture
Osaga also committed himself to strengthening transparency and accountability in the use of public resources while improving monitoring of government programmes to ensure services reach intended beneficiaries.
He pledged support for farmers through modern agriculture and value-addition initiatives aimed at increasing household incomes and reducing poverty levels in the district.
The district boss further highlighted the need to improve road networks, especially in rural communities where poor infrastructure continues to affect transport and market access.
Leaders, Residents Express Optimism
Several district leaders who attended the function congratulated Osaga upon his election and expressed optimism that his leadership would help tackle long-standing service delivery challenges.
Religious and cultural leaders called upon the new administration to promote peace, inclusiveness and accountability while serving the people.
Residents who attended the ceremony said they expect the new leadership to improve healthcare, education, youth employment opportunities and implementation of government livelihood programmes.
The event was characterised by celebrations, traditional dances and speeches from political and community leaders who pledged support to the incoming administration.
Osaga assumes office at a time when Kiryandongo District is implementing several infrastructure and social service projects aimed at improving healthcare, education, water access and agricultural productivity.
