Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has received 116 rain ponchos from the Exclusive Sustainable Tour Operators Association (ESTOA) to support ranger operations in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The donation was officially handed over on Friday to UWA Executive Director James Musinguzi as part of efforts to strengthen conservation work and improve the welfare of frontline staff operating in one of Uganda’s most challenging forest environments.
According to UWA, the rain ponchos will support rangers involved in gorilla tracking, patrols and daily conservation activities within Bwindi, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, is known for its dense rainforest terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, making protective gear critical for ranger operations.
UWA officials noted that the donation will enhance the efficiency, safety and comfort of rangers who spend long hours in the forest protecting wildlife and guiding tourists.
The authority also commended ESTOA for supporting conservation and sustainable tourism efforts in Uganda.
The contribution comes at a time when Uganda continues to strengthen conservation partnerships between wildlife authorities and private tourism stakeholders to protect biodiversity and promote eco-tourism.
Bwindi remains one of Uganda’s leading tourism attractions, drawing thousands of tourists annually for mountain gorilla trekking experiences.
