Kampala, Uganda: The Police at Kampala Metropolitan are holding in custody 38 suspects arrested during separate disruptive operations conducted in Entebbe and Mukono targeting criminal hotspots linked to robbery, burglary and drug abuse.
According to KMP Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the coordinated operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety across the metropolitan area.
Owoyesigyire said an operation conducted in the wee hours of Tuesday morning in Bendegere, Kasenyi and Nakiwogo areas within Entebbe Division led to the arrest of 31 suspects.
The suspects were reportedly found in possession of suspected narcotic substances and other exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activity.
“They are currently detained at Entebbe Police Station pending prosecution,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
Security agencies have in recent months intensified night operations in Entebbe following complaints from residents over increasing incidents of theft, drug abuse and violent crime in some landing site communities.
Seven arrested in Mukono
In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted on May 18, police also arrested seven suspects in Jojo, Sonde and Misindye areas within Goma Division in Mukono District.
The areas have previously been identified by security as criminal black spots associated with gangs involved in burglary, theft and drug-related activities.
Police confirmed that the suspects were charged and detained at Goma Police Station under Mukono Central Police Station pending prosecution.
Police vow sustained operations
ASP Owoyesigyire said Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to conducting sustained disruptive operations targeting criminal elements across the region.
“Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to conducting sustained disruptive operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements and enhancing the safety and security of the public,” he stated.
The latest crackdown comes amid ongoing police campaigns to combat urban crime, narcotics abuse and gang-related activities in Kampala and surrounding districts.
