KAMULI, Uganda: Muslims in Kamuli District have been urged to uphold the spirit of sacrifice, sharing, forgiveness and compassion as they celebrated Eid al-Adha prayers on Friday.
The call was made by Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament Mastula Namatovu while addressing hundreds of Muslim faithful gathered at Kamuli Main Masjid Jamia for Eid prayers.
Namatovu said Eid al-Adha should remind Muslims to care for the less privileged, support vulnerable communities and promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence in society.
“Idd ul Adhuha marks the end of hatred and signals cooperation and sharing with others through sacrifice,” Namatovu said. She added that leaders, especially politicians, must take collective responsibility for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“We take collective responsibility to offer credible service to the people and today I come in peace and offer my sacrifice of Shs5 million to cleanse and pay off the pork sellers occupying mosque land,” she said.
The legislator further urged Muslims to embrace government development programmes, coexist peacefully with people of other faiths and continue being positive examples within their communities.

Kamuli District Khadhi Ismail Kazibwe congratulated Muslims upon successfully completing the holy season and encouraged them to uphold Islamic values, peace and hygiene.
Kazibwe also called for strict observance of sanitation and health measures amid the ongoing Ebola concerns in the region. “With Ebola coming in, let us maintain hygiene, sanitation and follow all standard operating procedures as guided,” the Khadhi said.
Meanwhile, Emirates Good Hope in partnership with Hasene Qurban Campaign International Holland slaughtered hundreds of cows for distribution to vulnerable communities as part of Eid charity activities.
According to officials from the charity campaign, over 700 cows are expected to be slaughtered in Kamuli District alone, alongside additional distributions in Amudat and Apac districts.
“Goodness finds the path and Qurban opens the way. In this Qurban campaign, we are slaughtering 700 cows in Kamuli, 400 in Amudat and 400 in Apac districts in community outreach and service to Allah’s people,” one of the officials said.
The annual Eid al-Adha celebration commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice in obedience to Allah and is marked by prayers, animal sacrifice and acts of charity among Muslim communities worldwide.
