Kampala, Uganda: Veteran Ugandan musician David Sifaayo, popularly known as Master Parrot has died following a tragic road accident along the Kampala Northern Bypass, ending the life of one of Uganda’s most celebrated music stars of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

According to eyewitness accounts, the singer was knocked down by a speeding motorcycle while attempting to cross the Northern Bypass on Monday evening.

The fatal accident reportedly occurred in the Masanafu area, and witnesses say the musician died instantly from the impact.

Police later transported his body to Mulago National Referral Hospital mortuary pending further procedures.

News of his death quickly spread to his home in Wabiduku, Kiwatule, where family members, friends and fans were left devastated by the sudden loss.

Master Parrot rose to prominence during Uganda’s vibrant music scene of the late 1990s and early 2000s, earning widespread recognition through hit songs including Muliro and Kikompola.

His unique style and energetic performances earned him a loyal following and cemented his place among Uganda’s notable musicians of the era.

In recent years, however, the singer had largely withdrawn from the public spotlight amid reports of personal struggles.

Earlier this year, videos circulating on social media showed the musician in a visibly distressed state, prompting concern among fans, fellow artists and members of the public.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief across Uganda’s entertainment industry, with many remembering him for his contribution to the country’s music scene and the lasting impact of his popular songs.

Police had not yet issued an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the accident by press time.
