Pallisa, Uganda: Police in Pallisa District have arrested a man and his wife to assist with investigations into a murder case following a fatal fight that left one person dead in Kadoki Village, Akadot Parish, Pallisa Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Okonye Charles Faustine, 38, a resident of Kadoki Village. The prime suspect, Outa John, 25, a peasant from Gogonyo Sub-county, is currently in police custody.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of Saturday, June 6, 2026, when Outa reportedly travelled to his stepfather-in-law’s home in Kadoki Village to check on his wife, Apio Rose, who had earlier gone there on domestic matters.
Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 10:00pm, while Outa and his wife were asleep in a room, they were allegedly confronted by Okonye, triggering a violent altercation. The confrontation reportedly spilled outside the house, where the two men continued fighting.
Family members and neighbours were alerted by the commotion and rushed to the scene. Among those who responded was Outa’s stepfather-in-law, Odutu Francis, who reportedly found Okonye critically injured and lying on the ground.
The victim was first rushed to Pallisa General Hospital before being referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for specialised treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries at around 2:00pm on Sunday.
Police initially registered the matter as an attempted murder case under SD Reference PAL CPS 11/07/06/2026 before upgrading it to a murder case under CRB 250/2026 following the victim’s death.
Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed the incident, saying detectives visited and documented the crime scene while statements were recorded from relevant witnesses.
He added that the suspect remains in custody and is receiving treatment for minor injuries sustained during the fight. Apio Rose has also been detained to assist police with ongoing investigations.
“The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue,” ASP Kyempasa said.
Police said inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation.
