Kampala, Uganda: Renowned Ugandan educationist and University leader Prof. Lawrence Muganga has received the Global Impact Award from Afroglobal Television in recognition of his contribution to education, leadership and community transformation across Africa.
The award was presented in Kampala by Moses A. Mawa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Silver Trust Media, the Transformation Institute for Leadership and Innovation, and Afroglobal Television.
Delivering the accolade to the Victoria University VC, Mawa described Muganga as a transformative leader whose work in education continues to inspire positive change across communities.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank you so much, Professor Muganga. You are such a light in a dark world. Education is one of the most important instruments that brings about transformation. Once people are enlightened, they can make an impact in other areas of life as well,” Mawa said.
He explained that Afroglobal Television, one of the largest television networks serving people of African descent in Canada and internationally, selected Muganga because of his remarkable contribution to education and societal development.
“You received the Global Impact Award from Afroglobal Television because of your incredible work. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Almighty and, of course, congratulate you on this achievement,” he added.
Prof Muganga expressed gratitude to Afroglobal Television for recognising achievements taking place on the African continent and highlighting the role Africans in the diaspora continue to play in advancing development.
“I’m really grateful to Afroglobal Television for granting me this award all the way from Canada and recognising that in Africa there is so much we can do and so much we have already done,” Muganga said.
He pointed to Mawa’s success in establishing and managing an international television network in Canada as evidence of the expertise, skills and experience Africans abroad can bring back to the continent.
“Just imagine what he can do if he started that very television network here in Uganda. There is a particular exposure, experience, skills and competencies that we bring to our country. This is home,” he said.
Muganga welcomed the growing recognition of African innovators and change-makers by international organisations, saying such acknowledgement helps spotlight positive stories emerging from the continent.
“I’m delighted that Afroglobal Television sees what is happening in Uganda and on the African continent and singles out people who are performers and bringing impact to their communities. It is not something I take for granted,” he noted.
He also commended Mawa for travelling to Uganda to personally present the award. “I’m glad that you took the trouble to come all the way to Uganda for me. Congratulations and thank you. You’ve done so very well. God bless you,” Muganga said.
