Kyenjojo, Uganda: Police in Kyenjojo District have arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnap and murder of a seven-year-old boy whose body was discovered days after he disappeared from a video hall in Kisojo Sub-county.
The victim, identified as Turinayo Osbert, reportedly went missing on the night of June 12, 2026, after leaving home with his brothers to watch a film at a nearby video hall in Isoroma Village, Kitongore Parish.
According to Police, the child failed to return home after the film, prompting family members and residents to launch an immediate search, but their efforts yielded no results.
The case was officially registered as kidnap and murder by strangulation on June 13.
Investigations took a disturbing turn on June 15 when the family received a phone call from an unknown individual demanding a ransom of Shs1.5 million in exchange for the child’s release.
The caller reportedly threatened to kill the boy if the money was not paid.
Through intelligence-led investigations and phone tracking efforts, Police arrested two suspects identified as Manyindo Isaiah alias Bala, 26, and Twijukye Elias, 17.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly led investigators to the location where the victim’s body had been concealed under tree leaves.
Police recovered the body and transported it to Kyenjojo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said detectives are continuing with inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death and determine whether additional suspects may have been involved.
The Police have also cautioned parents and guardians against leaving young children unsupervised, especially during late hours.
“Police strongly advise parents and guardians against leaving young children unsupervised in trading centres, bars, or video halls, particularly during late hours. Allowing a seven-year-old child to remain in a video hall at 9:00 p.m. exposed the child to unnecessary risk. Children require close supervision to safeguard their wellbeing and prevent avoidable incidents,” ACP Kituuma said.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations progress.
