Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to address the nation on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 8:00 p.m., according to an announcement issued by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU).
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PPU said the President will speak on “matters of national importance.”
“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) wishes to inform the general public that H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, will address the nation on Saturday, 4th July 2026, at 8:00 p.m. on matters of national importance.”
“The address will be broadcast live on all major radio and television stations, as well as on online platforms across the country. The general public is encouraged to tune in.”
Although State House did not disclose the specific subjects the President will discuss, the address comes against the backdrop of several significant political, governance, and security developments that have dominated national attention in recent days.
Among them is the arrest and prosecution of former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and lately former Ethics and Integrity Minister Miria Matembe, the latter charged with promoting sectarianism before later being granted bail by the Luzira Magistrates Court.
The country has also witnessed increased public discussion surrounding the enforcement of broadcasting regulations after a number of media platforms, mostly those under the Nation Media Group, faced temporary interruptions to programming or regulatory action in recent days, raising debate over media freedom, compliance and freedom of expression.
The President’s address also comes as government continues implementing the Shs84.4 trillion national budget for the 2026/27 Financial Year, with ministries rolling out new programmes while Parliament begins its induction of members of the 12th Parliament ahead of scrutiny of government expenditure and policy implementation.
On the regional front, Uganda is coordinating the voluntary repatriation of citizens from South Africa, with government announcing that the first chartered evacuation flight is expected to transport Ugandans who have registered to return home.
The address is also expected amid continued government efforts to implement key priorities under the Parish Development Model, tourism promotion, infrastructure development and broader socio-economic transformation programmes.
Museveni has traditionally used national addresses to communicate government positions on major policy matters, national security, public health emergencies, economic reforms and regional developments.
