Kampala, Uganda: The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has arrested Parliament’s Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Chris Obore, together with several current Parliament officials as investigations into alleged abuse of office and misuse of public funds gather pace at the August House.

Others arrested include Daniel Adilo, the Director of Human Resource; Methods Murebe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Parliamentary SACCO; Okema Leonard, the Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, the Principal Research Officer; and Okwi Emmanuel Emuron, the Principal Protocol Officer.

Itule Stella, the Personal Assistant of former Speaker Among, and Otebata Vincent, the Capacity Development Officer, also join the list.

The arrests, carried out on Thursday morning, form part of a wider anti-corruption investigation targeting both current and former officials over the management and utilization of public resources at Parliament.

Sources familiar with the investigations said the officials are being questioned over allegations of abuse of office and the handling of public funds.

The Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze, has been leading investigations into several serving and former Parliament officials following the transition in Parliament’s leadership after Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among left the office of Speaker in May 2026.

Over recent weeks, several Parliament officials have reportedly been summoned to the Inspectorate of Government headquarters to explain transactions involving funds allegedly withdrawn through personal accounts and account for how the money was utilized.

The Inspectorate has not yet publicly disclosed the specific offences for which the arrested officials are being held, nor has it announced whether criminal charges have been formally preferred against them.

The latest arrests come amid an ongoing crackdown on alleged corruption within Parliament.

Although former Speaker Anita Among has not been produced in court over the same allegations, investigators have in recent weeks conducted searches at her residences in Kampala, Kigo and Bukedea, as well as her former office at Parliament, as part of the ongoing investigations.

The searches were undertaken as investigators sought documents and other material believed to be relevant to the inquiry into the alleged misuse of public resources.

Thursday’s operation at Parliament is expected to mark another significant phase of the Inspectorate’s investigations, which have attracted widespread public interest due to the seniority of the officials involved.

By press time, the Inspectorate of Government had not issued an official statement detailing the arrests or outlining the specific allegations against each suspect.

DailyExpress understands that investigations are ongoing and more officials could be questioned as detectives continue examining financial records and procurement transactions.
