Kampala, Uganda: The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has thrown its full support behind the Mustafa Kizza Foundation Charity Match, with proceeds from the event set to support former KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi as he continues recovering from illness.
The charity match will be played today, Thursday, 9th July 2026, at MTN Omondi Stadium, bringing together football stars from Uganda and Kenya in tribute to Mutebi, one of the country’s most successful coaches and the man credited with handing Mustafa Kizza his Uganda Premier League debut.
FUFA’s endorsement was announced during a press conference held at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, where Rogers Mulindwa, the federation’s Executive Committee member and Executive Secretary for Corporate Affairs, represented FUFA President Moses Magogo.
Mulindwa said the federation remains committed to supporting initiatives that use football to uplift lives and promote solidarity within the football fraternity.
“FUFA is fully supporting the charity match as per the requests made by the Mustafa Kizza Foundation. FUFA will continue to support programmes that enrich the football family and benefit the community,” Mulindwa said.
He applauded Kizza for recognising the contribution Coach Mutebi made to his football career.
“It is important to reflect on the journeys we walk and appreciate those who supported us along the way. We thank Mustafa for this initiative and for remembering Coach Mike Mutebi, who gave him his top-flight debut,” he added.
The highlight of the event will see Friends of Mustafa Kizza take on Friends of Wanyama and Mariga, a Kenyan legends side captained by brothers Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga.
The fixture will serve as the return leg following Kizza’s team’s 2-1 victory over the Kenyan side in Nairobi earlier this year.
Fans attending the charity event will also witness a curtain-raiser between Salim Katumba and Friends and the TikTok Select Team, adding further entertainment to the day’s programme.
Kizza, who currently plays for Nairobi United, officially launched the charity initiative last week alongside his former KCCA FC teammate Allan Okello, now featuring for Young Africans SC in Tanzania.
The charity match has attracted widespread support from Uganda’s football fraternity, with many viewing it as an opportunity to give back to one of the country’s most respected coaches.
Mutebi is widely credited for transforming KCCA FC into one of East Africa’s most successful clubs, nurturing several players who have gone on to represent Uganda and secure professional careers abroad.
The organisers say all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Mutebi’s medical care and recovery.
