Kiryandongo, Uganda: Kiryandongo District Local Government has received a brand-new Toyota Hilux Double Cabin pickup under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP) to strengthen agricultural extension services and improve the implementation of climate-smart farming initiatives.
The vehicle was provided through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) under the World Bank-funded project, which seeks to enhance agricultural productivity and build resilience to climate change among farmers.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, District Production and Marketing Officer Byenkya Issa Hassan thanked the Government for the support, saying the vehicle will significantly improve field operations and agricultural service delivery across the district.
“This vehicle will facilitate timely field operations and enable extension workers to effectively reach farmers across the district. It will enhance service delivery and ensure the successful implementation of the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project,” Byenkya said.
Chief Administrative Officer Anselm Kyaligonza also welcomed the acquisition, thanking the Government of Uganda for creating an enabling environment that continues to attract development financing from partners such as the World Bank.
Kyaligonza urged the District Production and Marketing Office to ensure the vehicle is used strictly in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the project’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He said the pickup will improve the mobility of agricultural extension workers, allowing them to reach more farmers with technical support aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, promoting climate-smart farming practices and improving access to agricultural markets.
Resident District Commissioner Dan Muganga called on the district’s production department to ensure farmers fully benefit from the project through effective implementation and supervision.
He also emphasised the importance of proper management of the vehicle, urging officials to carry out routine servicing and maintenance to maximise its lifespan.
Muganga further appealed to the designated driver to observe traffic rules and regulations to safeguard both the vehicle and its occupants.
District officials said the newly acquired pickup will strengthen field supervision, project monitoring and the delivery of extension services, contributing to improved agricultural productivity and climate resilience among farmers in Kiryandongo District.
