Hoima, Uganda: Kitara FC have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season after completing the signing of experienced Ghanaian defender Bonney Christopher on a two-year contract.
Bonney becomes the Royals’ first acquisition of the transfer window as the club prepares for a demanding campaign that includes the CAF Confederation Cup, the Uganda Premier League, and the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The versatile defender arrives with experience from both the Ghana Premier League and the Tajikistan Higher League, adding depth and flexibility to coach Wasswa Bbosa’s backline.
Capable of playing at centre-back, right-back and as a defensive midfielder, Bonney is expected to provide healthy competition for places alongside experienced defenders Murushid Jjuuko, Isa Lumu, Benjamin Nyakoojo and Samuel Kato Nimeyimana.
Speaking after completing his move, Bonney expressed his excitement about joining the Hoima-based club and pledged to help Kitara compete for honours.
“There is a lot expected of me from my teammates and the fans, but I want to pledge my commitment and determination to help us win games and titles this season,” Bonney said.
“I know the task ahead, but I’m here to improve as a player and help my team achieve success. I can’t wait to get started.”
Head coach Wasswa Bbosa said the club had tracked the defender for some time before deciding to bring him to Uganda.
“We have been monitoring him for a while and we are delighted to add him to the squad. He has a positive mentality, good experience and brings real competition for places. He will be an important player for us next season,” Bbosa said.

Bonney boasts an impressive résumé, having made more than 40 appearances in the Ghana Premier League while featuring for some of the country’s biggest clubs, including Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak and Ebusua Dwarfs. He also had a stint with Kerala United before moving to Tajikistan.
During the 2023/24 season, the defender made 22 league appearances for Panjsher Balkh in Tajikistan’s top flight, further expanding his international experience.
His arrival comes as Kitara intensify preparations for what promises to be one of the biggest seasons in the club’s history. The Hoima-based side earned qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the 2025/26 Stanbic Uganda Cup, securing their maiden appearance in continental club football.
The club is expected to strengthen further during the transfer window as it seeks to build a squad capable of competing domestically while making a strong impression in Africa.
With preseason preparations underway, Bonney’s experience at both domestic and international level is expected to play a key role as Kitara target success on multiple fronts.
