Kisozi, Uganda: President Museveni today received the Special Envoy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, at his Kisozi Farm, where the two leaders discussed the security situation in eastern DRC and the need for continued regional cooperation to restore peace and stability.

The meeting comes amid ongoing diplomatic and military efforts by regional leaders to address persistent insecurity in eastern Congo, where armed groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and M23 rebels, continue to destabilise the region despite various peace initiatives.

Sharing details of the meeting, President Museveni said regional stability remains critical to the economic prosperity and development of East Africa.

“This morning at my Kisozi Farm, I received Mr. Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, the Special Envoy of the Democratic Republic of Congo. We discussed matters of mutual interest, particularly the security situation in eastern DRC,” Museveni shared on X.

“Peace and stability in our region remain essential for the prosperity of our people, and we shall continue working together with our regional partners to address the challenges facing eastern Congo.”

Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have in recent years strengthened bilateral cooperation on security, particularly through Operation Shujaa, a joint military offensive launched by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo (FARDC) against the ADF, an Islamic State-linked rebel group operating in eastern DRC.

The two countries have also expanded economic cooperation through major cross-border infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads linking western Uganda to eastern Congo, aimed at boosting trade and regional integration.

The meeting also comes as regional leaders under the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the African Union (AU) continue to pursue diplomatic initiatives to end fighting in eastern Congo through dialogue and coordinated security efforts.

Uganda has consistently maintained that lasting peace in eastern DRC is essential not only for regional security but also for trade, investment and socio-economic development across the Great Lakes region.
