Omoro, Uganda: More than 20 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers were injured on Saturday after a military truck transporting them to their duty stations overturned in Omoro District, military sources have confirmed.
The soldiers were among hundreds who graduated from Labwordwong Military Training School on Thursday and were being deployed to various military units under the Fourth Infantry Division.
Initial reports indicated that the crash had occurred along the Agago–Pader Road. However, subsequent information showed that the accident happened in neighbouring Omoro District as the soldiers were travelling to their deployment stations.
According to military sources, the truck had earlier refuelled at the Fifth Infantry Division Headquarters in Acholi Pii, Pader District, before continuing its journey when it overturned.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least two soldiers sustained serious leg injuries, while the remaining victims suffered injuries of varying severity.
All the injured personnel were rushed to the Fourth Infantry Division Barracks for medical treatment.

A UPDF officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to address the media, said none of the injured soldiers had been confirmed dead.
Earlier, the Fourth Infantry Division Public Information Officer, Capt. David Kamya, confirmed that a military vehicle had been involved in a road traffic crash but declined to provide additional details regarding the cause of the accident or the number of casualties.
By press time, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces had not issued a comprehensive statement on the incident or disclosed the circumstances that led to the crash.
The latest accident comes just days after another tragic road crash in northern Uganda in which an Opit Travellers passenger bus collided head-on with a trailer in Bobi Sub-county, Omoro District, along the Kampala–Gulu Highway. The crash claimed 15 lives and left 28 other people injured, renewing concerns over road safety on major highways in the region.
