Man arrested for posing as female house maid to steal from employers

The suspect, identified as Kayaga Rayan, allegedly used the name Namirembe Rukia while seeking employment as a housemaid.

Kayaga Rayan, the suspect arrested in connection with the alleged theft of cash after reportedly posing as a female domestic worker in Kampala.

Kampala, Uganda: Police in Nateete Division are holding a man accused of disguising himself as a female domestic worker to gain employment before allegedly stealing from unsuspecting employers in Kampala.

The suspect has been identified as Kayaga Rayan, who allegedly used the name Namirembe Rukia while seeking employment as a housemaid.

According to preliminary police investigations, Kayaga disguised himself as a woman to secure domestic work before allegedly targeting employers for theft.

Police say the suspect was most recently employed at a residence in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division, where he is accused of stealing UGX 1.7 million from his employers.

Investigators revealed that the suspect was arrested at a church in Mutundwe after security personnel conducting routine screening before a church service became suspicious.

Following his arrest, the employers reportedly discovered that UGX 1.7 million was missing from their residence and immediately reported the matter to the police.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted that he had been disguising himself as a female domestic worker with the intention of stealing from employers.

Police stressed that the alleged confession forms part of the ongoing investigations and that the suspect remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The suspect is currently being held at Nateete Police Station pending the conclusion of investigations and is expected to be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.

The Uganda Police Force has urged members of the public to exercise greater caution when recruiting domestic workers and other household employees.

Police advised employers to thoroughly verify the identity, background and references of prospective workers before offering employment.

Authorities also encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police station to help prevent similar incidents.

Investigations into the alleged theft are ongoing.
