Kamuli, Uganda: Central College Kamuli has qualified to represent Uganda at the East African Secondary Schools Mind Games Championships in Tanzania after emerging among the top performers at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Mind Games and Athletics Championships held at Sacred Heart Secondary School, Gulu.
The school earned Certificates of Excellence in both Scrabble and Ludo for the boys’ and girls’ categories, marking a historic achievement in its first appearance at the national mind games competition.
Speaking while receiving the trophy, certificates and the victorious team on Friday, Headteacher Ramadhan Mpasa described the achievement as a major milestone for the school and a reward for its continued investment in co-curricular activities.
“We welcome our sports heroes who managed to win medals in their first national attempt in Mind Games, bringing silverware to our school. This is a big boost and justification of our over Shs30 million investment in sports,” Mpasa said.
School Director George Byantuyo said the victory reflects the institution’s commitment to holistic education beyond academics. He noted that the school’s motto, “Built for a Good Future,” guides its investment in talent identification, skills development and co-curricular activities.
Byantuyo revealed that, with support from alumni, parents and development partners, the school plans to introduce additional sporting disciplines and strengthen skills-based programmes alongside computer studies and agriculture.
“We are going to prepare adequately for the East African competition in August and bring glory to Uganda just as we have made Busoga proud at the national level. We always emphasise that we win or lose with dignity,” he said.
He added that the latest success builds on the school’s previous national achievements in school water and sanitation clubs, research competitions, essay writing and sports under the Iowa State University Uganda Chapter.

District Leaders Applaud Achievement
Kamuli District LCV Chairperson Kaloli Dhizaala congratulated the school and encouraged education institutions to embrace co-curricular activities alongside classroom learning.
He said sports and clubs help nurture discipline, teamwork and leadership among learners. “The district, on behalf of Busoga and the Kyabazinga of Busoga, is highly proud to be associated with Central College for effectively representing us and flying our flags high,” Dhizaala said.
The school’s victorious team was welcomed with a brass band procession from Kamuli Municipality Roundabout to the school as students, staff and parents celebrated the achievement.
Central College Kamuli will now represent Uganda at the East African Secondary Schools Mind Games Championships scheduled to take place in Tanzania this August.
