LUWEERO: Police in Luweero district are investigating a murder of a A 55-year-old businessman in Gulu district who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Christmas day.
The deceased, identified as John Musisi was a resident of Mulage village, Bamunanika in Luweero district VIDE Bamunanika police station CRB 111/2020.
According to the Police report, it is alleged that on December 25, 2020, the deceased, together with his son Dembe Charles, 18 years old, and daughter Biraba Jane 11 years old, after a church service at Bamunanika boarded a boda boda at Bamunanika Trading Center to go back home.
However, on their way at about 1600 hours, they came across a motorcycle with two passengers dressed in civilian clothes who blocked and knocked them down intentionally in Kisaku village.
“Immediately, one of the passengers on the said motor cycle jumped off with a sub machine gun (SMG) and shot the deceased in the chest who died instantly and they (gunmen) sped off,” said Police spokesperson for Savannah region ASP Isa Semwogerere.
Police has so far managed to identify one of the assailants as Sam Kagwalo.
Semwogerere revealed that preliminary findings indicate that the deceased has been having a serious land wrangle with his late brother Zirabamuzale Joseph’s sons and the matter is before Luweero Chief Magistrate’s Court.
“It is also alleged that Zirabamusale’s sons Henry Serwada, Kiseka Stephen, Jaya all UPDF officers and Kagwalo Sam, a close friend to the above, openly threatened to kill the deceased before the close of Christmas,” said ASP Isa Semwogerere.
The area DPC Luweero, OC station Luwero, D/CID/O Luwero, Savanna regional SOCO, Savannah regional flying squad team, and a team of homicide detectives visited and documented the scene of crime.
Meanwhile, police have taken the body to Kasana Hospital Luweero pending postmortem.
Investigation experts have recorded relevant statements, which will aid in investigations at the scene. No arrests have so far been made and no cartridge was recovered at the scene.
“Police, however, has started tracing for the suspects for possible arrest and prosecution,” Semwogerere said.
