The National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is on a planned move to have his family members fleed to the US ahead of the 2021 Elections, the Daily Express exclusively reports
According to a trustable source who prefered anonymity, the family memebrs have already acquired visas from the US Embassy and are about to flee the country in the next few days.
It should be noted that Uganda will go to the polls on January 14 and several opposition groups have been mobilizing their supporters for violent demonstrations in case they lose the election.
Last year, following the arrest of Bobi Wine for flouting campaign guidelines and aiding the spread of the deadly COVID-19, violent demonstrations broke out in Kampala and other towns. The riots were characterized by robbery, destruction of property and attacks on innocent Ugandans believed to be supporters of the NRM party.
However, the police and sister security agencies restored calm with President Museveni promising that the hooligans would soon lose the appetite to attack innocent Ugandans.
In his end of year address to the nation, President Museveni again warned criminals and crooks who intend to destabilize Uganda and this year’s elections, by getting involved in cheating and violence.
“I have the information. People are planning to steal elections, including election officials bribed to change results or facilitate multiple voting. Then we have the ones who want to use violence to alter the wishes of the people,” Museveni said.
He was critical of the indiscipline of some of the political actors, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. He hailed the police for acting tough.
“I will not allow the affairs of the people of Uganda to be messed up by criminals and traitors who cheat,” he said, warning again, “All of you who are involved, please stop. I know, and I will act.”
