FUFA’s Referee Disciplinary panel has suspended female assistant referee Jane Mutonyi for one month over her controversial decisions in football officiating.
Mutonyi was in spotlight as Wakiso Giants defeated Police 3-1 in the Uganda Premier League matchday 21 on Wednesday 28th April at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakisha.
FUFA referee disciplinary panel chairperson, Ali Tomusange in a statement says it found that her advice to the referee Nkurunziza George for cancellation of a goal scored by Police FC was ill-advised.
During the game marred with controversy, the female assistant referee rose her offside flag and adviced the center referee Nkurunziza George to cancel a goal scored by Police’s Herman Wasswa in the 84th minute of the game.
According to findings in the statement, “Mutonyi Jane lacked concentration while making the decision herein above and subsequently ill-advised the referee. The decision by Mutonyi Jane affected the results of the match.”
“The Disciplinary Panel hereby sanctions Mutonyi with, a One Month Ban from football officiation effective 7th May 2021,” read the statement signed by disciplinary Referees Disciplinary Panel chairman Ali Tomusange.
The same game saw Mutonyi again cancel out midfielder and Police captain Tony Mawejje’s rebound.
Defender Hassan Mahmood free-kick on the edge of the box had deflected off the wall for the Giants goalkeeper Samson Kirya to spill the ball in the path of Mawejje who tapped home.
Joshua Lubwama Letti brace from two converted penalties and Vianne Sekajugo strike inspired the Wakiso Giants win while Herman Wasswa Nteza came from the bench to cut Police’s deficit.
