Former Anglican Bishop of Kampala Diocese, Dr. Zac Niringiye in nursing wounds after he was attacked on his was home by a group of thugs who hit before robbing him of a mobile phone.
Bishop Niringiye was attacked on Wednesday evening at about 6:45pm near Legacy Courts in Ntinda, Nakawa Division in Kampala City.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman confirmed the incident saying the retired Bishop and activist was hit with a brick on his head before the thugs took off with his phone.
“The suspects took off after the crime. We are working around the clock to identify and arrest them. The good news is the victim is out of danger and has been discharged from hospital,” said Owoyesigyire.
The police have embarked on a task of obtaining CCTV footage from private entities to identify the suspects.
According to police, such thuggery attacks on unsuspecting pedestrians are on the increase with criminals targeting people believed to be carrying cash or electronics.
Police Spokesperson CP Fred Enanga on Monday warned people living in rich neighbourhoods, who jog while carrying expensive electronics and jewellery, that they are targeted.
In a footage that went viral last week, a 14 thugs riding on motorbikes attacked and robbed Shs5m and two mobile phones from an accountant who was riding a motorcycle along Mawanda Road in Kampala City.
