KAMPALA, UGANDA: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit – SHACU has confirmed that three immigration officers have been arrested at Entebbe International Airport on allegations of abuse after they allegedly caused a refugee to miss her flight over unclear reasons.

According to a Thursday afternoon statement released by the SHACU, the three officers identified as Caroline Kabugo, a shift supervisor, Martha Mboneko, and Julius Musalwa, both Immigration officers were arrested following a tip-off from a whistleblower.

“State House Anti-Corruption Unit in liaison with police conducted an operation at Entebbe airport following a whistle-blower’s complaint that led to the arrest of 3 Immigration officers; Caroline Kabugo (shift Supervisor), Martha Mboneko, and Julius Musalwa (Immigration officers),” reads in part a statement by SHACU.

The Anti-graft unit further added that the arrested officers while executing purportedly claimed that the refugee had forged clearance documents from the Office of the Prime Minister causing her to incur extra costs in excess of $1,800 over the missed flight.
