Inside Gen Muhoozi’s apology to Ruto after provocative tweets

The Former Land Forces Commander Thursday apologised to Ruto over tweets he made that caused stir allover social media and threatened diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Museveni’s son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has finally issued an apology to Kenya’s president H.E William Ruto over tweets he made that caused stir allover social media and threatened diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries.

However, after days of silence on Twitter, the Former Land Forces Commander on Thursday evening apologised to President Ruto saying he has no problem with him, and that if he made a mistake anywhere, he asks for forgiveness.

“I have never had any problem with Afande Ruto. If I made a mistake anywhere, I ask him to forgive me as his young brother. God bless East Africa,” Muhoozi said in a Thursday evening tweet.

Background

Gen. Muhoozi weeks ago threw Twitter into meltdown after he ‘jokingly’ threatened that he would invade Kenya’s capital, Nairobi and that it wouldn’t take him more than two weeks to capture them under his territory.

Muhoozi in another series of Tweets also went ahead to comment about the recent election in Kenya that was won by William Ruto, saying he wished former president Uhuru Kenyatta had sought a third term, arguing that he would have won.

Gen Muhoozi’s apology comes exactly a week after his father, President Museveni apologised to president Ruto and Kenyans saying it was wrong for a public officer to meddle in the affairs of other nations.

“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former commander of land forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.” the President wrote in a statement.

“Museveni said it is not right for public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way in the internal affairs of brother countries. He said such discussions should be handled by the peer-review mechanism of the African Union and not in public comments.”

Despite the reckless comments made by Muhoozi, he was promoted to a full four-star general and retained his position as presidential advisor on special operations after being removed as the commander of Land Forces.
