BUYENDE, UGANDA: The Buyende district woman member of parliament Hon Nakato Mary Annet in partnership with the Orthodox Church have assured residents of Gumpi sub-county, Buyende district that of a Health Centre IV and a secondary school to save locals from traversing long distances for health and education services.
While in an engagement meeting on Thursday at Gumpi village, Gumpi sub-county in Buyende district, Hon Nakato said that she got in touch with the diocesan manager of Orthodox work in the area, Mr Prokopios Mutumba, to have the sub-county assisted.
The meeting involved engaging locals on where specifically to put the projects while considering the availability of land for the two projects.
“This project could have gone to another district since these people are operating in a number of districts but through their diocesan manager, Mutumba, I managed to convince them to have the project situated in Buyende district, particularly Gumpi sub-county,” Hon Nakato said.
However, the orthodox church representative in the area and other eastern parts, Rev Fr Lubega John Bosco said that they received a request and proceeded by writing to RDC Buyende and other district leaders to clear them.
Lubega said they came to inquire from locals where to put the facilities in the sub-county and if they have readily available land for the projects.
“We have specifically come to ask you if you have land for the projects. Also to know in which particular area of the sub-county we are going to put the development,” Said Rev Fr Lubega.
“We request for land where to put the secondary school and a health centre, the church will come later but I want to remind you that we desire to have all regions helped without considering whether you’re a Moslem, protestant, Catholic, etc,” he added.
In a meeting which was attended by over 100 representatives from various parishes in Gumpi sub-county, the majority supported having the projects in Kitukiro parish. Gumpi sub-county has got a number of parishes which includes among others, Nabitura, Kimbaya, Kitukiro, Inuura and Gumpi.
The Resident District Commissioner Buyende district, Kulaba Isabirye commended the church for various developments in the country and said that he received a letter from the diocesan manager and MP to have the development cleared and couldn’t have any hesitation.
He applauded Hon Nakato for their cooperation with his office and other offices in the district saying that she is readily available to adopt opportunities, unlike other fellow MPs.
“People may ask themselves why I’m always with Hon Nakato in such development projects, the issue is that she is always in coordination with my office. We could have lost this project if I was waiting for other MPs because I haven’t seen some of them ever since I came in office,” RDC Kulaba said.
Meanwhile, the woman MP Nakato Mary Annet assured people in Gumpi sub-county that she engaged the minister of education and sports, Janet Kataha Museveni and she promised two seed schools to Buyende district.
This comes after some leaders reminded their MP that they lack a seed school yet it was a government pledge to have a seed school in every sub-county.
Hon Nakato said that one of the schools promised will definitely serve Gumpi sub-county.
The meeting was attended by among others the vice chairperson Buyende district Mr Magala Scolastica who doubles as the district councillor Gumpi sub-county, LC3 chairperson Gumpi Sub-county Walugambire Simon, Rev Fr. Anastasio Isabirye Bakomereza from the Orthodox team, parish chairpersons in the Sub-county and other local leaders.
