KABALE, UGANDA: The Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma has halted the mass transfer of teachers in Kabale municipality until a harmonized position has been reached between the Municipality Education Department, Kabale Diocese and Kigezi Diocese Education Department.

Last month, authorities from Kigezi Diocese accused the Kabale municipal Education Authorities of carrying out what they termed a mass transfer of teachers in the middle of the academic year without consulting other Education stakeholders like the Diocese.

They urged that the mass transfer of teachers should not have been during the middle and the academic term claiming that this would affect the performance of learners in certain schools.

Speaking to DailyExpress on Thursday evening, Mr Nyakahuma said that a successful meeting that sat at Kabale municipal offices between all the Education holders in Kabale municipality agreed and resolved that the list of transferred teachers be revoked until it is discussed by all the Education state holders from Kabale and Kigezi Dioceses.

He said that the matter should be handled between tomorrow and Saturday before a harmonized list can be released on Monday next week.

Efforts to get a comment from the Kabale Municipal Principal Education Officer Grace Munyambabazi were futile because he could not pick up our reporter’s repeated calls.
