OBONGI, UGANDA: The Resident District Commissioner for Obongi district, Mr Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka has started operations against all contractors doing suspected shoddy work and those abandoning construction sites and ghost projects.

The operations led by the RDC includes; the Deputy RDC Denis Jawoko, the District Intelligent Security Officer (DISO) Draciri Edward and among others the Honourable Secretary for Works and Technical Services, Mr Azubu Michael.

According to Mr Mpimbaza, at the Obongi district headquarters, the team found an abandoned site for construction of the Obongi district production office at a cost of 1.9 billion shillings supposed to be constructed by the Development infrastructure of Kanjokya Street in Kampala.

The production office project should have started in February 2023 after the former RDC Obongi did the
groundbreaking ceremony.

The site manager of development infrastructure informed the monitoring team that the contractor
does not have money for buying building materials.

The 1.9 billion shillings project is under the development response to displacement impact project called the DRDIP.

The operation comes at a time when some contractors are failing to fulfil their obligations in the  Northern District of Obongi of doing quality work while others abandon sites even after the district has advanced them billions of
shillings.

Last week the office of the RDC Unearthed an abandoned site by one of the contractors at Gopele seed secondary school in Gimara sub-county, Obongi district.
