Kampala, Uganda: Uganda is set to host the 13th African Potato Association (APA) Conference at the luxurious Speke Resort Munyonyo from May 25 to 30, 2025, bringing together leading agricultural minds in a major continental dialogue on sustainable potato and sweetpotato farming.
Themed “Fostering Climate Smart Cropping Systems for Sustainable Potato and Sweetpotato Value Chains,” the summit will address urgent challenges surrounding climate change, food security, and agricultural sustainability in Africa.
Hundreds of researchers, policymakers, farmers, and agribusiness stakeholders from across the continent and beyond are expected to attend the week-long event.
Organized in partnership with Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), the International Potato Center (CIP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and other global agencies, the summit promises in-depth discussions and exhibitions focused on climate-resilient value chains, policy innovations, and scientific breakthroughs aimed at improving productivity and farmer livelihoods.
Hosting the event at Speke Resort’s state-of-the-art convention facilities reflects Uganda’s growing stature in agricultural innovation and research. The venue’s lakeside location on the shores of Lake Victoria offers an ideal atmosphere for technical sessions, networking, and collaborative planning.
This will be the second time Uganda is hosting the APA summit, further cementing its regional leadership in root and tuber crop development. With just 31 days to go, the conference is billed as a key turning point in transforming Africa’s potato and sweet potato value chains.
The hosting of the APA summit further solidifies Speke Convention Centre’s status as a premier destination for international conferences and high-level gatherings in Africa.
As part of the Ruparelia Group’s hospitality portfolio, the centre not only showcases Uganda’s capacity to convene global discourse but also affirms the Group’s strategic role in positioning the country as a hub for business tourism and investment.
For Uganda, it’s a boost in international visibility; for the Ruparelia empire, it’s yet another milestone in redefining luxury, service, and infrastructure excellence on the continent.
