Kayunga, Uganda: Masaka Secondary School retained their UMEA Solidarity Games boys’ football crown after defeating Kibuli SS 6-5 in a tense penalty shootout at Namagabi Secondary School on Monday evening.
The 2025 edition of the UMEA Games, which attracted over 100 Islamic secondary schools from across the country, ended after four days of spirited competition in Kayunga District. The boys’ football final, a rematch of last year’s title clash, ended goalless in normal time before Masaka SS held their nerve from the spot to seal back-to-back titles.
In the girls’ football category, Kawempe Muslim SS continued their dominance with a 3-0 victory over Nkoma SS. Monica Nanono, Agnes Nabukenya, and Kevin Nanyunja were all on target for the Kampala-based giants.
Kibuli SS and Mbogo High School won the boys’ and girls’ badminton titles respectively. Kinaawa High’s Sserubiru Awal and Kakungulu Memorial’s Namubiru Victoria were named MVPs in the boys’ and girls’ events.
Kibuli SS swept table tennis in both categories, with MVP awards going to Nsereko Sharif and Nkoma SS’s Tendo Florence.
Kawanda SS topped Scrabble in both boys’ and girls’ divisions. Buwule Vincent and Namuyiga Earon were named MVPs. Gombe SS bagged top honors in handball and chess for both boys and girls, with MVPs including Kabugo Ismail, Ayikoru Bridget, and Nabukeera Faridah.
In volleyball, Mbogo Mixed emerged as champions in the boys’ category, powered by MVP Ogire John Baptist. Greenlight Islamic SS claimed the netball crown, while Gombe SS was declared the overall best-performing school.
At the closing ceremony, patron Prince Kassim Nakibinge hailed the success of the 37th edition of the games and confirmed that the 2026 UMEA Solidarity Games will be hosted in Eastern Uganda.
