Road to 2026: Lunyolo declares fresh bid for Mbale Woman MP seat on NRM Ticket

Mbale, Uganda: Former Mbale District Woman MP contestant, Ms Lunyolo Sylvia Aisha, has declared her return to the race for the 2026 general elections under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Lunyolo, who lost to Miriam Mukhaye in the 2021 polls, announced her renewed candidacy during the Easter weekend at Dream Palace Hotel in Senior Quarters, Mbale City. “I’m confident that I will be the next Member of Parliament to fulfill my dream of serving the people,” she said.

Backed by a blend of her past and current supporters, Lunyolo expressed confidence in her ability to win both the NRM primaries and the general election.

She challenged voters to assess the performance of current leaders before making their next choice. “You are the bosses, put us on the weighing scale and ask yourselves: have those we sent there helped us or not?” she told the gathering.

According to the Bugisu Intellectual Forum, a local platform that tracks political developments in Mbale, Lunyolo has prioritized infrastructure development, especially in the health and transport sectors.

“Our health sector is struggling. Pregnant mothers suffer during maternity because of the lack of health centers, and even where they exist, there’s no medicine. This needs a serious leader who can lobby for change,” she said.

She cited the deteriorating condition of Busano Road as a major hindrance to healthcare access and daily life. “It’s in terrible condition and can’t even provide access to nearby health centers. But if we unite, we can change this,” Lunyolo added.

She also pledged to support women-led saving groups, noting that many lack political representation and guidance. “Mothers have savings groups, but they lack leaders who can engage and support them. If given the mandate, I will address these issues,” she said.

Reflecting on her previous campaign loss, Lunyolo called on residents to rally for a new beginning. “We gave Miriam a chance, but things haven’t worked out. Now is the time to unite for real change. I’m here with you, let’s move together.”
