Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow, Monday, begin a three-day working tour of the Rwenzori sub-region to assess the ongoing implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), Uganda’s flagship anti-poverty initiative.
Sandor Lyle Walusimbi, the Presidential Senior Press Secretary, confirmed that the President will spend three days in the Rwenzori subregion assessing the PDM implementation, visiting some of the selected beneficiaries, as well as launching the Presidential zonal skilling hub.
The visit to the Rwenzori subregion forms part of the President’s nationwide PDM assessment campaign, which has so far covered sub-regions including Acholi, Lango, Busoga, Bukedi, and Teso regions.
On those visits, the President has consistently emphasized the PDM as a transformative vehicle designed to shift Ugandan households from subsistence to the money economy through direct parish-level financing.
Mr Museveni showcased success stories of beneficiaries who have utilized PDM funds to boost agricultural production, launch small-scale businesses, and access financial services.
In Greater Luweero, beneficiaries reported increases in maize and poultry production, while women’s groups in Teso established cassava processing initiatives using PDM support.
“These stories prove that PDM is not just government talk; it is working. It is changing lives,” Museveni said during one of his recent tours.
While in Rwenzori, the President is expected to meet local leaders, farmer cooperatives, and youth groups to further understand progress and address bottlenecks affecting full rollout of the program.
