Mbale, Uganda: Reverend Jackson Magombe, Director of Operations in the Office of the MP for Budadiri West and Chairperson of the Clergy in North Mbale Diocese, has declared his bid to contest for the Budadiri West parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
Magombe made the announcement on Sunday evening during a closed-door meeting with selected Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) delegates in Mbale, positioning himself as the natural successor to outgoing MP Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
His declaration comes just days after Hon. Nandala confirmed he would not seek re-election, having served Budadiri West for 25 years.
Instead, Nandala picked nomination forms to contest for the FDC presidential flagbearer ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Rev. Magombe described himself as a loyal servant who has worked side by side with Hon. Nandala and pledged to uphold his mentor’s legacy.
“I am the right candidate to carry forward the legacy of Hon. Nandala Mafabi,” he said. “He has mentored me, and I am prepared to serve the people of Budadiri West with commitment and continuity.”
Magombe, who also represents the Eastern Region on the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee, said his experience in church leadership and constituency operations equips him for national representation.
The cleric is expected to face the FDC constituency chairman, Mr. Kabala, in what is anticipated to be a highly competitive party primary before taking on the eventual NRM flagbearer in the general election
