Somalia: The Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) under the United Nations Guard Unit XI (UNGU XI), Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, has called on troops deployed in Somalia to uphold professionalism, discipline, and vigilance as the cornerstone of their peacekeeping mission.
Lt Col Barigye made the remarks on May 11 while addressing both senior and junior commanders during a strategic briefing session. He emphasized the need for unwavering focus, cooperation, and a deep sense of responsibility in executing the unit’s duties under the UN mandate.
“Professionalism, discipline, and vigilance must remain our guiding principles,” Lt Col Barigye stressed.
The Deputy Commander of UNGU XI, Maj Jacob Gowan Kaburika, echoed the call for morale and dedication among the troops, saying these values are key to sustaining the UPDF’s operational credibility in multinational missions.
“High morale and a strong work ethic are central to the UPDF’s reputation and effectiveness,” he said.
The engagement was attended by officers responsible for operational planning, troop welfare, and strategic communication, including personnel from the Female Engagement Team, Civil-Military Cooperation, and the Military Information Office.
