Veteran NRM leader Zebtek backs journalist Bwayo for Namisindwa LCV seat

Wepukhulu Zebtek, a former contestant for the District Chairperson (LCV) position in Namisindwa, has officially stepped down in favor of youthful leader Emma Bwayo

Namisindwa, Uganda: Wepukhulu Zebtek, a veteran politician and elder in Namisindwa District, has withdrawn from the 2026 LCV Chairperson race, endorsing youthful contender Emma Bwayo in a strategic move to unify the Buwabwala vote base.

Zebtek, who also serves as the District NRM Chairperson for Elders, made the announcement during a community engagement in Buwabwala, saying he saw great leadership potential in Bwayo and believed his candidacy represented a fresh, unifying vision for Namisindwa.

“I saw the potential in Emma and chose to put the interests of the region above personal ambition,” Zebtek stated. “By stepping aside, I believe we are increasing our chances of winning the LCV seat and securing development for our people.”

His decision was met with applause from community members and fellow elders, many of whom hailed his selflessness and praised Bwayo as a long-awaited candidate who genuinely represents Buwabwala.

Dismas Wanendeya, a prominent elder from Buwabwala Sub-county, described Bwayo’s candidacy as a timely breakthrough for the region. “All through the years, we haven’t had someone like Emma. It’s our time to vote our own into leadership,” he said, warning against individuals he described as political opportunists attempting to hijack the region’s voice.

Emma Bwayo, who currently serves as the Male Youth Councilor for Namisindwa District, expressed gratitude for the endorsement and pledged to run an inclusive campaign that listens to and unites communities across the district.

“While I come from Buwabwala, my leadership is for the entire district. The challenges we face here are the same in Bumbo and Bubutu. We need leaders who listen, unite, and act,” Bwayo said.

He is expected to face off against incumbent Wakweika Jackson and retired health professional Situma Mango in what is shaping up to be a hotly contested LCV race.
