Kamuli, Uganda: The former National Unity Platform (NUP) party coordinator for Busoga, Moses Bigirwa aka Gen Bigirwa, has revealed that internal blackmail, selfish leadership, and ideological betrayal prompted him to quit the party and form a new political pressure group, the Eastern Revolutionary Platform (ERP).

Speaking on Saturday, May 17, 2025, during a highly charged rally at Moyer’s Garden in Kamuli Municipality, Bigirwa, who is also eyeing the Kamuli Municipality MP seat, accused NUP’s leadership of sidelining founding members and suppressing internal democracy.

“I made a mistake to show interest in becoming party president during a conversation with Robert Kyagulanyi [Bobi Wine] and Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro back in 2017. When I suggested that Kyagulanyi should serve two terms and I would be his successor, that became the genesis of blackmail and conspiracy against me,” said Bigirwa.

He emphasized that while he is officially number five among the founding members of NUP, he could no longer stay in a party that promotes “malice and blackmail” instead of national transformation.

Bigirwa’s new outfit, the Eastern Revolutionary Platform, seeks to decentralize political mobilization by empowering regional leaders to champion change from their local constituencies.

“One of our pillars as ERP is to share the task of campaigning from our regions so that we gain bargaining power in sharing the national cake,” he said.

The rally attracted a mix of political and cultural influencers across Busoga and Buganda regions, including musicians and civil society players.

Also present were FDC National Youth Chairperson Adepo Francis, who now doubles as Speaker of ERP, and Hon. Nsubuga Hassan, President of the Buganda First Platform, both of whom voiced support for Bigirwa’s call for equitable national representation.

Former Kawempe Division Mayor Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, who was chief guest, hailed Bigirwa for his boldness and consistency in pushing for reform.

“I met Bigirwa when he was just 18 years old. He has always been brave in fighting for change in Uganda,” Munyagwa remarked. “He’s not preaching tribalism—he’s preaching ideology and regional empowerment. Let’s abandon politics of blackmail and embrace politics of reasoning.”
