Mbale, Uganda: Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC is through to the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup final after completing a 4–1 aggregate win over FUFA Big League side Kataka FC in the semifinals.

The return leg, played on Sunday at Mbale City Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw. KCCA came into the game with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg played at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Brazilian forward João Gabriel Esteves Cardoso, popularly known as Gabi, broke the deadlock early in the second half with a stunning strike into the top corner in the 47th minute, his third goal since joining the club from ADC Cabofriense.

Kataka responded in the 66th minute when Michael Olinga latched onto a flicked clearance by Ali Sentamu and fired past the KCCA goalkeeper to restore parity for the day.

Despite Kataka’s spirited effort, the aggregate scoreline left no doubt about KCCA’s superiority over the two legs.

They now march into the final, where they will face fierce rivals Vipers SC on 31st May 2025 at the newly constructed Kadiba Stadium in Lubaga.

Vipers sealed their spot in the final a day earlier after edging out defending champions Kitara FC 1-0 in Hoima to complete a 2-0 aggregate win. Abdul-Karim Watambala netted the solitary goal in the return leg, adding to Yunus Sentamu’s late winner in the first leg.

The 2025 final, which marks the 51st edition of the traditional cup, will rekindle memories of the 2018 Uganda Cup showdown between KCCA and Vipers, a clash KCCA famously won.

The Lugogo-based club will be gunning for their 11th Uganda Cup crown, while Vipers eye their fourth title and a potential domestic double after clinching the Uganda Premier League title.
